*FYI: I have NOT lost my undies - I know exactly where they are. Read further if you'd like to know how this became the heading.*
I woke up for church today and really wanted to cancel cause I was tired as hell. Not that I know if hell is tiring, but I am guessing it is if it is as hot as it has been here lately. But instead El and I chatted about some stuff and then I got ready for church. Simon and Helene picked us up while Jeremy rode his bike to church.
I went to Helene's church: Glynde. I really like how friendly everyone is there, although most of the time we are introduced to people and they don't really approach us before then. Or at least that's what it feels like at times. The Pastor's message (which was a tad bit too long for my liking) was really good. He discussed how we as humans and people are lazy when we could actually be tuned in to God and doing his will. Pastor Jon talked about what Jesus' first priorities were and how the book of Mark shows what his priorities were. I didn't particularly like the songs that were sung this week, but that's okay. After the service, I met some more people and discussed the previous night's events with Jeremy, Ellie and Simon.
Interesting note: I learned that tea means dinner or supper. Not actually having a cup of tea. When Simon invited us over for tea yesterday, he was inviting us over for dinner. Not tea like we had thought. So we didn't actually have to try and eat before we went to their house. Pastor Jon explained in the middle of this message what tea was and what he ate as a child when he had tea. And then it made sense to Ellie and I. I love profound things especially when they are as simple as being the word for dinner.
Helene invited us to stay for the meeting regarding the starting up of their youth group. I declined, but in the end really would have preferred to stay. Instead Jeremy dropped us back off at HH and then we chilled until Julie came to pick us up at 3:30. We had the option to go to a barbie (BBQ) at Helen's or church with Julie's daughter Gabby.
Julie and Gabby drove us to their home and on the way we learned about weddings in Australia. The bachelorette night is called hen's night. And they aren't as superstitous about if the groom sees the bride before the wedding. Hair appointments, nails and all that jazz cost a bit more than in the US. Personally, I am sick of talking about weddings (and that's a lot of what I hear during the day) since I am not getting married anytime soon. We also drove (and lived) through the 'roundabout of death' - which is a two-laned roundabout. Upon arrival we met Jess and Tiarna, the only two Hahns we hadn't met yet and their dog Shelby. She's the cutest dog!
We chilled at their house just talking and getting to know each other before we walked to Golden Grove Lutheran Church. We arrived an hour and a half before the service so that Jess, Tiarna, and Gabby could practice since they are in the praise band. We met a few other people during this down time. We ate at this potluck type of thing that was put on by the parents of some of the youth that attend the church. The service was really good. The music was great and I enjoyed it. I also met Alyssa the youth director at the church. She is so cool - she has blue dye in her hair. Mom - this does not mean I am going to dye my hair again. :)
Gabby gave the message in which she talked about her recent month long visit to Indonesia. She discussed how God is always in control - whether we want him to be or not. This was refreshing to hear because sometimes I forget this part. But when I reflect I always think about how God has a hand in everything I do, even though I may not want to admit that. That's a part of being human and falling short of his glory. Gabby's message focused also on the fact that she was without undies for a while due to some circumstances.
This is the Golden Grove Lutheran Church sanctuary and this is Gabby giving the message.

After the service, we walked back to the Hahn's house and had some biscuits (cookies). We talked for a long time about different things and just had a great time. You could tell at one point in time that we were all ridiculously tired because we were laughing at everything. After Julie and her husband Chris came back from the barbie, we drove back to HH. And it was there that I ended my night.
I wrote this blog so that you could have an *UP-TO-DATE* blog - but I will be posting the other ones when I actually have time to sit, reflect and write everything I want to without being rushed for time.
Until then - cheers!
